MongoDB Consulting
MongoDB's flexibility makes it a favorite for fast product development — but when schema design and index strategy are neglected, performance collapses as data grows. Rescuing production MongoDB clusters that grew too fast is one of our most frequent engagements.
From replica set setup to sharding decisions, from Atlas migrations to query optimization — we provide measurement-driven support at every stage of your MongoDB journey.
What we do
- Schema and document design: embed/reference decisions, data modeling
- Index strategy, query profiling and aggregation tuning
- Replica set architecture, election and durability settings
- Sharding design: choosing the right shard key and balancing
- Migrations to MongoDB Atlas or from Atlas to your own infrastructure
- Backups, security hardening and continuous monitoring
Frequently asked questions
Our MongoDB queries slowed down as data grew — what now?
We start with the profiler to map the real query load: which queries do collection scans, which indexes go unused? In most cases compound index fixes and a few document design changes make a dramatic difference.
When should we move to sharding?
Before a single replica set can no longer scale vertically — but premature sharding is unnecessary complexity. We measure your working set against memory; if you're approaching the limit, we plan the move with the right shard key, because a wrong key is a very expensive decision to reverse.
Atlas or self-hosted MongoDB?
Atlas makes operations significantly easier; the price is cost and some loss of control. Based on your data volume, compliance requirements and team, we produce a three-year cost projection of both scenarios with a recommendation.
Should we move from a relational database to MongoDB?
Not always — that's the honest answer. If your access patterns fit the document model, the gains are real; if you need strong relational integrity, PostgreSQL may be the better fit. We evaluate impartially — our goal is the right decision, not selling a technology.
